Six electric car myths debunked

Green CarJust found a great article that debunks 6 myths big oil, the media and "haters" have conjured up about why electric cars are bad.

Now granted, the Prius is not all electric yet, but an all electric version is rumored to hit the market in 2012. And for those who are interested, it's easy to convert current models to an all electric version if you have the bank roll.

As sad as it is that big oil was able to squash the EV1s of the 90's (check out the fantastic documentary Who Killed the Electric Car), here's hoping they won't have the same success with the new generation of electric cars. Just think where electric technology would be today if the EV1s had survived... sad.

Keep those Prius batteries warm

Toyota PriusNow that I am a Pruis owner, I have lots of questions about the best ways to reach maximum MPG.

A quick Google search revealed a great blog called PriusChat.com.

There are some very... um... "dedicated" Prius owners out there that have found all kinds of crazy ways to modify their cars to eek out every possible MPG. For instance. I've learned that the battery inside the Toyota Prius does not like to be cold. As is evident by the low MPG you get when you first start out driving each day, it takes a few miles to reach maximum MPG.

So some Prius owners in much colder climates than Columbia, SC have found that by blocking the grill on the front of the car, you can keep the battery warmer while it is running and increase your MPGs. Seems a little scary to me since the grill was put there for a reason, and I am sure modifying it in any way would void the warranty, but some owners swear by it. Read more >>

Toyota PriusSo I decided to put my money where my green mouth is, and I am now the proud owner of a 2010 Toyota Prius!

I'm so excited by this new car, that I've decided to create a special section devoted to it on "Save the Earth Y'all." So welcome to the new "Prius Talk" section of STEY.

I'll use this blog to let everyone know how things are going with the new Prius... gas milage, perks, quirks, etc.
