Flowers are yummy!
As spring flowers begin to bloom all over the US, most people will marvel at their beauty, but a select few of us will lick our lips as many flowers make tasty treats. This is only true if you have a pesticide-free garden and the flowers are not growing close to the road or any other places that harbor little nasties (a pig farm or a sewage treatment plant, for instance).
I wrote about the tasty, edible dandelion a while back, but here are seven more delicious floras to add to your spring salads and use as edible garnishes in your favorite dishes.
- Anise Hyssop
- Sunflower
- Carnation (carnation instant breakfast anyone?)
- Roses
- Chamomile
- Vervain (also keeps away vampires... bonus!)
- Lilac
A small word of caution: Many different plants share the same name as other plants. I've found articles saying these flowers are edible (and have actually tried a few), but if you eat them and they make you sick, don't come crying to me.
