'Tis the season to be green

Green ChristmasIt's less than a week past Thanksgiving and already you can't turn on the TV without being bombarded with Holiday ads. Heck, that was even happening BEFORE Thanksgiving.

Seems like the Christmas Season starts earlier and earlier each year. Well this year, you should vow to have a greener Christmas. So I compiled a few tips to help get you started as well as a link to a great article with even more tips.

So what a are you waiting for? Don't have a blue Christmas, have a green one!

1. Shop online - Not only will you avoid the crowds, but you'll save gas (no trips to the stores), and most likely you'll save money. Look for sites that offer free shipping to save even more money.

2. Give money to a charity in someone else's name - It will make everyone feel good, will help out a worth cause and will keep you from buying someone something they won't like or won't use... and will eventually end up in a landfill. Make sure you check out which non-profits have been naughty or nice on a site like Charity Navigator before you donate. You want to make sure all your donation goes to the cause, not high overhead.

3. Make your holiday gifts - Special treats, homemade eats, and the like are great presents to give, and yummy ones to get.

4. Wrap presents in newspaper - And then recycle it after Christmas morning.

5. Get a live Christmas tree - Not one that has been cut down (that's really a dead tree), but one that still has a root ball. Then once the holidays are over, plant it in your yard. If you get a cut down tree, at least have it turned into mulch or sunk in a lake (for the fish) instead of tossing it out for the garbage folks to collect.

So there are a few to get you started. Want even more, check out this great post from the folks over at Green Living Tips.
